Welcome to the Khums Calculator

"Know that whatever you may gain, then, indeed, a fifth of it is for Allah, for His Messenger, and for the Prophet's relatives; orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have faith in Allah and what We sent down to Our servant on the Day of Separation, the day when the two armies met; and Allah, over all things, is competent."
Surah Al-Anfal, 8:41

This program is designed to help you determine your khums obligation in a clear, guided, and step-by-step manner. Whether you are calculating khums for the first time or doing so as part of your annual practice, this tool walks you through the process with care.

You will be guided through identifying your khums date, accounting for previous years if applicable, and completing a comprehensive questionnaire that covers all major categories, from income and savings, to investments, business assets, loans, and inheritance.

At the end, you will receive an itemized breakdown of your obligation. When you are ready to proceed, click Begin below.

Before You Begin the Questionnaire

Please read the following before filling out the questionnaire:

  • Enter the dollar amount for each item that applies to your situation this year.
  • Leave any item blank, or enter 0, if it does not apply to you.
  • Click the ⓘ icon next to any item to learn more about what it means.
  • Items highlighted in green are deductions that reduce your khums balance.
  • The running total at the bottom updates as you enter amounts.

Make Your Intention

Paying Khums is an Act of Worship Just as you make an intention (niyyah) before Salat and before fasting, take a moment now to make your intention for paying khums: that this is done purely for the sake of Allah, seeking nearness to Him (قُربَةً إِلَى اللهِ).
This intention transforms khums from a financial transaction into a genuine act of taqarrub, drawing closer to Allah, just as fasting without intention is merely hunger, and prayer without intention is merely movement.

Example niyyah: "I am paying khums as an obligation to Allah, seeking His nearness and pleasure."
